Controlled Substances Policy

Science Atlantic does not endorse student gatherings involving the consumption of alcohol or

any other controlled substances as a predominant activity. This includes but is not limited to

“pub crawls”.

Funding for Science Atlantic-sponsored conferences shall not be used to promote, coordinate,

or defray the costs associated with such events. The Science Atlantic name, including the

wearing of name tags or apparel with the Science Atlantic logo, is not to be associated with

such events. These events are not to be publicized via Science Atlantic websites or social

media, or printed in any conference material.

Students, of their own volition, are free to organize such events outside the aegis of Science

Atlantic. Any student and/or Science Atlantic member choosing to attend such a studentorganized

activity is advised that he/she does so at his/her personal discretion, not under the

umbrella of Science Atlantic.

In the case that any sanctioned event (such as a conference banquet) affiliated with Science

Atlantic has alcohol or any other controlled substances present, Science Atlantic in no way

condones or is responsible for underage or irresponsible consumption of these substances, or

any consequences resulting from such activities. Organizers of such events accept the full

responsibility of adhering to any relevant laws, policies, and restrictions on the provision,

access, and consumption of these substances.

In the event of a contradiction between a host institution’s policy and this Science Atlantic policy,

that contradiction will be resolved between the institution in question and Science Atlantic, via

the Institutional Representative and Science Atlantic’s Executive Director.
